Hayward N. Shula Sr.

Hayward N. Shula Sr., a native of Mobile, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.

He was born June 6, 1928 in Mobile to Annie Mae Shula Stallworth.

He united with Adams Street Holiness Church of Mobile at an early age where he met and married the love of his life, Yvonne Williams. From this union, eight children were born.

He was a shoe repairman by trade but was employed by Treadwell Ford Motor Company where he retired after 30 years of service; was an excellent roller blade skater and loved being around young people.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Yvonne W. Shula; son, Carl B. Shula; grandsons, Bryan R. Shula and Christopher Shula; sister, Sarah Louise Shula Stallworth; several aunts and great-aunts; two devoted, Pinky Rowe and Margaret Stallworth; three uncles; Ben, Tom and Jake; and one nephew Willie Bonham Jr.

Survivors include seven children, Joycelyn (Tommie) Mims, Carol Jean Shula, Hayward N. (Sharon) Shula Jr., Quentin B. Shula Sr., Jonathan D. Shula, Cynthia Y. Shula Davis and Constance A. Shula Hale; devoted niece, Pinky A. (George) McKinley; one great-niece; 35 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; special friend, Calvin (Rock) Means; a host of other relatives, family and friends.

Viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Baldwin Community Chapel. Visitation begins at 1:30 with funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at Union Baptist Church in Bay Minette with the Rev. Larry Anderson, the Rev. James T. Crook, the Rev. Jerry Crook, the Rev. Roderick Jackson, the Rev. Calvin Pledger, the Rev. Donald Taylor and the Rev. Wayne Walters, associate ministers, and the Rev. D.L. Boykin, pastor, officiating.

Arrangements are by Baldwin Community Chapel, Bay Minette.
