According to a report received by the Baldwin County Health Department from Daphne Utilities, a sewer spill of approximately 4,500 gallons occurred today and yesterday in a wooded area north of Hillcrest Drive in Lake Forest subdivision in Daphne.
A grease blockage in the sewer main resulted in the overflow from a manhole. The sewage flowed into an unnamed tributary to Tiawassee Creek. A vacuum/pump truck was used to clean the line and the grease was physically removed at the next downstream manhole. Any visible solids were removed and lime was applied to the ground in the location of the overflow.
The health department urges residents to exercise caution if using these bodies of water for recreational purposes. Thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught near by and wash hands after coming in contact with the water, fish or seafood.
