According to a report received today by the Baldwin County Health Department from the city of Fairhope Utilities, due to heavy rains a manhole overflowed in the Spring Lake Drive area.
The overflow resulted in an estimated volume of 200 gallons of sewage being discharged to a drainage ditch that drains to Cowpen Creek.
The health department urges residents to exercise caution if using this body of water for recreational purposes. Also, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught nearby, and wash hands after handling fish or seafood.
