Helen Carney McClain of Crystal Springs Miss., age 89, passed away on Oct. 22, 2012 in Tuscaloosa Ala.
A memorial service was held at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa (6100 Old Greensboro Rd., Tuscaloosa AL 35405) on Thursday October 25, 2012. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Nature Conservancy. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Curtis Boren of Douglas Ga.; son, Tommy Curtis of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Alan Boren of Naperville Ill., Lindsay Boren Day of Douglas, Ga., Taylor Curtis of New York City, N.Y., Haley Curtis of Atlanta, Ga., and Miles Curtis of Memphis, Tenn., and great-grandchildren, Ava Boren, Adelaide Day and Jake Day. She will also be greatly missed by her dear friends in Gulf Shores. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. McClain; mother and father, Corinne and Frank Carney Sr.; her brothers, Frank Jr. and James Carney. Helen lived in and worked for the City of Gulf Shores for many years. She recently relocated to Tuscaloosa to be closer to her family. Her interests included painting, country music, gardening, reading, and support of many worthy environmental and veteran causes. She will be terribly missed by her family and we are thankful she was with loved ones at the time of her death.
