James Wesley “Buddy” Helton, born Nov. 4, 1934, a longtime resident of Atlanta, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at his home in Atalant.

He was born and raised in Foley and graduated from Foley High School as Senior Class President. He attended Auburn University where he obtained a degree in Engineering. He eventually moved to Atlanta and was a commercial Engineer there for the rest of his career.

He loved listening to classical music, laughing, and being with his family. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

He was one of four children born to Lola Helton, who preceded him in death; and was the beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” Helton for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Ken Helton and Ron Helton; daughter, Laura Helton Schrader; countless other friends and family.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Foley.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation.
