Thomas J. Helton, 66, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., a resident of Gulf Shores, and longtime resident of Fairbanks, Alaska, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008.
He served as president of the Board of Directors of Baldwin Electric Membership Cooperative. He previously worked for the State of Alaska in several capacities, including youth counselor. He was also a youth football coach in Fairbanks, Alaska. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by his father, Evans Gavin Helton, and a brother, L.G. “Jabbo” Helton.
Survivors include his wife, Janis H. Helton of Gulf Shores; two sons, Charles M. Helton of Anniston and Jacob T. (Kaylene) Helton of Fairbanks, Alaska; his mother, Nannie Lee Helton of Fairhope; two sisters, Annette H. Lay of Daphne and Lisa L. Helton of Fort Payne; five granddaughters, Sarah A. Mirabile, Olivia N. Helton, Erin H. Helton, Peyton R. Helton and Kennedy R. Helton.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 from the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley.
