Ora C. Hess, 99, a native of Florence and resident of Spanish Fort, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.

She worked in retail stores most of her life retiring from Rogers Department Store in Florence in 1944 at the age of 85. She then retired to Daphne and eventually moved to Westminster Village. She was a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church and a previous member of Northwood Methodist Church in Florence.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Cal G. Hess Sr., step-mother, Nettie C. Childress; two brothers, Aubrey Childress and William Davis; and her twin sister, Opal Childress.

Survivors include two sons, Cal G. (Billie) Hess Jr. of Foley and William Dale (Kay) Hess of Lexington; two sisters, Jean C. Hall, Sue Rice; three brothers, Garth R. Childress, John Earl Childress and Hugh F. Childress; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 15 at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence. Graveside services followed at Greenview Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
