FOLEY, Alabama - Baldwin County schools are closed through Wednesday due to Tropical Storm Isaac and all Baldwin County high school athletic events, practices and meetings are cancelled until further notice, according to two Baldwin athletic directors.
Public school athletic teams in both Mobile and Baldwin county school systems are barred from practicing, meeting or participating in athletic contests until further notice from school superintendents. Decisions about further postponements could come by Wednesday after the storm makes landfall.
Foley High School head football coach and athletic director Todd Watson confirmed that his team's Friday night high school football game against Alma Bryant had not been postponed or moved as of Monday morning, but that information about postponements could come as early as Wednesday. Gulf Shores head coach and athletic director Ben Blackmon also confirmed that his team's Friday night game at home against Satsuma had not been postponed as of Monday morning.
Along with football, the county's high school volleyball and cross country are also barred from meeting or practicing until further notice from the superintendent.
If high school football games are postponed, AHSAA rules direct teams to play on the next available day, which means some games could be moved to Saturday. Gulf Coast Newspapers will post information online about potential postponements online here at GulfCoastNewsToday.com and on our Facebook page at.
