Highway 180 gets a facelift

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Transportation started a paving project this week on Highway 180 West.

Better known as Fort Morgan Road, the 22-mile stretch will get an almost complete facelift.

Starting just west of Highway 59, the project will continue on to Fort Morgan, where work will be done there as well.

Construction Engineer for ALDOT Matt Ericksen said the project is part of the state’s maintenance resurfacing program.

ALDOT plans to also repave the ferry launch at the end of the road and the parking lot at the Fort.

A dirt road, used for exiting the Fort, will be paved.

Work for the $3.3 million project will last until the beginning of June.

Ericksen said this is the first repairs done to the road in almost seven years.
