DAPHNE, Ala. — The next program of the Baldwin County Historical Society will be on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Daphne Senior Center, 2605 Highway 98. The theme will be “Fort Mims — Past and Present.”
This program will be a short presentation regarding what occurred at Historic Fort Mims during the Creek War of 1813-1814 and some of the outcomes of Aug. 30, 1813.
There has been a tremendous effort put into restoring the Fort Mims site in Tensaw and in presenting annual re-enactments of the battle for many years. As president of the Fort Mims Restoration Association and a long-time volunteer promoting the history of Fort Mims, Claudia Campbell will be able to share the goals that the restoration assocoation has set and what they hope to complete prior to the 200th Anniversary of the Fort Mims Massacre in August 2013.
Campbell is a resident of Stockton. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Alabama in Birmingham and is a registered nurse. She is a member of the Montgomery Hill Baptist Church in Tensaw. She was a founder of the Tensaw Volunteer Fire Department and is currently a volunter as well as secretary/treasurer of that organization.
She is a member and Past Regent of the Fort Mims Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is also the current president of the Fort Mims Restoration Association and has been a board member since 1990. She has been a re-enactor in the Fort Mims events since the 1980s. She is a musician in the Montgomery Hill Bluegrass Band, playing guitar and bass.
Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
The Baldwin County Historical Society was founded in 1923 to bring citizens of Baldwin County together to ensure the preservation of the rich heritage of this area.
