Tis the season to be jolly and residents of Central Baldwin will have plenty of opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit with four different Christmas parades going on in the next two weeks.
The Town of Silverhill will have their parade on Friday, December 3 at 6 p.m. and have “Pictures with Santa from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, December 4 at Town Hall. A package of two 5X7 photos may be purchases for $10, said Patricia Bankester, Silverhill Town Clerk-Treasurer. Money eared from the photos will go toward the Silverhill Kids Park.
Robertsdale will have their parade on Saturday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. with floats lining up at 5:30 p.m. in the Robertsdale High School parking lot. The parade route begins on Berner Road and proceeds north on Hwy. 59 and disperses at Honey Bee park where there will be “Christmas in the Park”. Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available at this time.
Sponsored by the Robertsdale Rotary Club, the parade will have many floats from area businesses including Citizens Bank, Wesco Welding and Gas, Sweat Tire, The Hair Hut, Robertsdale Dental Care, Hickory House BBQ, NARFE (National Active Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1340), FBC Robertsdale, Bethel Baptist Church, Robertsdale First Christian Church, Slippers and Taps School of Dance, Alabama Baton Corps, Boy Scout Troop #98, Cub Scout Pack #45 and Central Christian School Cheerleaders, according to Ceclye Findley of the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
Central Baldwin Middle School 8th grade Band. RHS Alumni Association, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Posse, Southern Jumpers 4H Club and other horse riders will also be participating as well, Findley said. There will be first, second and third place prizes awarded for long (30’ and longer) and short (29’ and shorter) floats.
On Saturday, December 11, The Town of Loxley will have their parade at 10 a.m. with Santa making an appearance at the Loxely Civic Center follwoing the parade.
Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Loxley, Dr. Alan Lee, Superintendant of Baldwin County Schools, will be the Grand Marshall and around 33 floats will be participating, said Dr.Theresa Hardin, parade chairwoman.
Little Miss Strawberry, Parade King and Queen, and Baldwin County Judge of Probate Tim Russell will be riding in cars. Robertsdale Hgh School Band, Five local fire departments, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Possse, Loxely United Methodist Church, Loxely Elementary Pre-K, Loxley Optimist, Hickory House BBQ, Robertsfale Youth Football, Flowerwood Nursery, FBC Loxley, Loxley Youth Football and cheerleaders, Styx River Baptist, United Bank, Girl Scout Troop, Green Acres School of Dance, Ellisville Headstart, Town of Loxley and Santa Claus in the firetruck will round out the participants.
Hardin said there will be first, second and third place plaques awarded for winning floats as well. For more information, contact Dr. Hardin at (251)964-5210.
The Town of Summerdale will have their parade at 2 p.m. beginning at Summerdale School at 400 East Broadway Street . It will then proceed north on First Street, then west on Jefferson, going around the Summerdale Community Center and end at Summerdale Pioneer Park, according to Summerdale Town Hall officials.
Following the parade, there will be a “Meet Santa” in the park where parents may take pictures of their children with Santa and will have refreshments available.
