SPANISH FORT — Spanish Fort's Kendrick Holliman signed with Marion Military Institute last week. The 6-5 transfer from Stanhope-Elmore High made a quick impact for coach Earnest Hill last year.
"He came in last summer," Hill said. "This past year, I had heard what a great athlete he was. We went to Destin and that's when he really began to fit into the system and play well with the team. He works hard on and off the court. he's self driven to get better. He's a good student in the classroom, too. Kendrick is really a great, great player with his ability just touching the surface. Marion is getting a great player and his coach, coach (Gino) Myers is a great coach who will know how to to pull that ability out of him and help him get even better."
Holliman averaged 14.9 points and 8.2 rebounds, three steals and two assists per game as a Toro senior.
"It should be a great match up for Marion, " Hill said. “Kendrick will probably play a No. two guard for them which will fit in well because he handles the ball real well."
This past season Holliman played a strong forward for the Toros but is looking forward to learning the guard position.
"I met the coach, he said he saw some good potential in me," Holliman said. "I love basketball and this was a good opportunity to keep playing the game.
Most of my career I have played forward but they want me to play guard so I'm looking forward to getting up there and working hard to get better and help them out. I have to say thanks to my uncle, Quinton, for helping me, getting me into camps and making realize I had to work hard. And also coach Hill. He taught me a lot."
The son of Valarie Montgomery and Harold Stallworth, Holliman is undecided on a major.
