ORANGE BEACH, AL - A home on Johnson Cove at the end of Burkart Drive in Orange Beach was fully involved in flame as fire crews worked to bring it under control on Jan. 20 just after 5 p.m.

The first call came in about 5:07 p.m. from multiple callers saying fire was showing at the residence, Orange Beach officials said. Crews arrived on the scene at 5:13 p.m., Chief Shane Phillips said.

No one was in the home at the time of the blaze. The home is a total loss.

Phillips said crews would be on the scene throughout the night and an investigation would begin first thing on Jan. 21.

At least five trucks and 25 firefighters responded to the scene including a ladder truck raised to battle the flames from above.

According to Baldwin tax records the home is owned by W. Davis Pilot Jr. and the address given for the owner was a P.O. box in Mobile. The same records indicate Pilot has owned the home or the land since at least 2006.

Fire crews were unavailable for comment as the fight to contain the blaze was ongoing after 6 p.m. More will be reported as it becomes available.
