Homecoming activities to dominate week at RHS

Posted

Homecoming week at Robertsdale High is always a special time as the week is filled with theme days, decorated door competitions, a parade, the crowning of the queen prior to the RHS vs. Satsuma Gators game, and the Homecoming dance on Saturday evening that will be held at the Baldwin County Coliseum this year.

This past week the student body voted on a Homecoming Queen, out of the following group of seniors. This portion of the court includes; Roselee Coggin, Sarah Sawyer, Autumn Phillips, Rachael Lomax, Hope Carnathan, Erica Alexander, and Danielle Swafford.

Judges will go around toward the end of the week to pick a winning door decoration at the various classrooms. Prizes will be given for the winning doors. This year’s theme will be from Disney as students use various takes on Disney themes for their homeroom doors and in the Homecoming Parade

The parade is set for Thursday along last year’s route, which runs behind Region’s Bank and concludes at Honeybee Park. Various campus organizations will sponsor floats, and the Golden Bear Marching Band will lead the way. The Homecoming Court will ride in convertibles during the parade.

Just before kickoff, the members of the court will be escorted onto the field and this year’s queen will be announced and crowned.

Over the past few years, the students at RHS have held their dance the evening after the game so that more students could attend. This year’s dance will be held at the Baldwin County Coliseum rather than the cafeteria due to the dance’s growth.

During the dance, which will be held from 7:30-11 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 17, the Homecoming Court will be presented about midway during the event.

The price per ticket is $10, and will be available in the RHS library until 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. Outside date forms will need to be approved by Sept. 14, before a student can purchase tickets.

School announcements are now being televised throughout the day, as the school now has televisions in the library, front lobby, and break area. Shout-outs, such as birthday wishes, the need for a date to the Homecoming Dance, student campaigns for class officers, and such will be posted for $1.

Congratulations to Wyatt Cordova, special teams, Ryan Dean, defense, and Josh Laird, offense, on being named as Players of the Week for the Foley High game.

The Robertsdale High Naval Junior ROTC will be holding a flag retirement in December. Should anyone have a flag that they would be willing to donate to this ceremony please contact Master Chief Robert Dairy at rdairy@bcbe.org, or Cmdr. Gary Watkins at gwatkins@bcbe.org.

The RHS Band Boosters are pre-selling barbecue plate dinners for the Annual Play-A-Thon, which will be held Sept. 17 at J.D. Sellers Stadium.

The dinners are $7 a plate and will contain pulled pork from L.A. Bar-B-Q, baked beans, Cole slaw, bread and dessert. The times for pick up at the stadium are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The band will present their final show “The Blues Brothers” at 4:30 p.m. A silent auction will be held during the event.

To purchase tickets you can see RHS Band Director Robin Isherwood or any of the Band Boosters. If you are interested and you want to purchase a ticket, you can also e-mail Isherwood at risherwood@bcbe.com and she will get the ticket to you a.s.a.p. The Band Boosters are trying to raise $17,000 to cover the travel expenses for the Band to go to the Gator Bowl in January.
