William “Henry” Hoover III, 46, of Spanish Fort, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 after a courageous, seven-year battle with brain cancer.
He grew up in Hoover, graduated from Berry High School and attended college in Birmingham. He moved to Spanish Fort in 1999. He started his own business, “Hoover Investigations and Repair” performing inspections and repairs for the moving industry. He was an avid member of the Fairhope Yacht Club where he served as club secretary, on the harbor committee and as harbor chairman.
He especially loved his home in Spanish Fort, his C&C sailboat, Arcturus, his dog and two cats, sailing and racing in spinnaker fleet on Mobile Bay.
He was a loving husband, son and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hoover Sr. and Mr. John Miller Gunn.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 13 years, Yvonne Speer Hoover; mother, Julie Gunn Hoover and father, William “Bill” Hoover Jr.; grandmother, Julia Matchett Gunn; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Fairhope Yacht Club.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Junior Fairhope Yacht Club.
