House auction to benefit Baldwin County Education Foundation

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Psssst! There is a four bedroom, one and a half bath home going up for auction soon.

There’s only one catch — you have to move the house.

The house was donated to the Central Baldwin Education Foundation my Marcia and Marc Flint of Summerdale.

“The house was built around 1925,” says Marcia Flint, a counselor at Robertsdale High School.

A newer house was built in 1949, and the Flints moved there .

“The house was a rental for a number of years,” explained Flint. She adds that the house is in “really good shape,” and has seen its share of tornadoes and hurricanes in the area. The house has stood with minimal damage when neighboring homes were “total losses,” Flint says.

The house is currently in Summerdale, and sits on land the Flints would like to use for farming. That’s why the house has to be moved.

According to the CBEF Web page, cbef.org, the house has been appraised for $44,000. The buyer will have to pay to have the house moved, to a lot he or she owns and install the house there.

The house if fully plumbed and has central heat.

“It will make a darling house for someone,” said Flint, but added that with a house this old, some updating and “elbow grease” will probably be needed. While no plans are in place as yet, she hopes that some of the industrial arts students at Baldwin County schools might take on a little remodeling as part of their coursework.

No matter what, the new owners, “Will probably want to make some changes,” Flint said

“This is a really wonderful gift,” Said Ashley Kucera, a member of the CBEF Board of Directors. She added that the money raised from the auction would go to continuing the foundation’s work of supplementing the classrooms of central Baldwin County schools. The foundation gives grants to teachers to purchase things that are considered “extra” but contribute to the education of youngsters.

The CBEF recently ran a “Fill the Bus” promotion, that organizers say was very successful.

Those who wish to bid on the house, should contact the CBEF at their Web address, or write to the foundation at P.O. Box 1399 , Robertsdale. The ZIP code is 36567.

“I have been working in education for years,” said Flint. “This is a wonderful way for us to give back.”
