MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. - Two Magnolia Springs residents were injured during a house fire Monday afternoon at the 9000 block of John Hall Lane.
Magnolia Springs, Foley and Bon Secour Fire Departments responded to a call of a fire in Magnolia Springs at around 5:30 p.m. Two occupants of the residence were injured while attempting to extinguish the fire before firefighters got to the house.
According to Magnolia Springs Fire Chief Jamie Hinton, the cause of the blaze that heavily damaged the home is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.
"We arrived and had the fire coming out the roof," Hinton said. "We had the fire under control in about 16 minutes.
"We had two injuries: one a female that was a resident of the house that was transported to South Baldwin Regional (with a foot burn); and a younger male, her son, that had a burn to his right shoulder and right upper thigh. He refused transport."
Hinton said the fire appears to have started in the attic.
"Initial reports were the female owner was cooking on the stove, which she was, but all indications were that the fire started in the attic area," he said.
Hinton said he is not sure whether the home could be occupied again, but he thinks it can be repaired.
"That's going to be an insurance company call," he said. "With the structural damage to the roof, they may end up just tearing it down. In days past, they would have went in there and fixed it.
"It's definitely repairable. It's not a total loss."
This is the second fire the Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department has responded to in the last few days, as a vehicle caught fire Wednesday of last week at Beasley Road and County Road 49.
