Sue Morton Houser, a long time resident of Magnolia Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, from injuries sustained in a single automobile accident in Magnolia Springs.
She was born April 4, 1916 in Boston, Ga., the daughter of the late Dr. L.E. Morton and Nell Ramseur Morton. She attended Auburn University.
“Miss Sue” as she was affectionately known by all, was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Magnolia Springs, and for many years was a volunteer at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley.
She also enjoyed several years in a sales career with World Book Encyclopedias and Sears. She was an active golfer in her early years and has been an avid and informed PGA fan since then. Her other hobbies, bridge, poker, crossword puzzles and reading, brought her much joy.
But by far, her greatest joy was to be in her “cottage” and being surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Shaler Houser Jr., daughter Peggy Houser Jacobs, and sister, Elizabeth Morton Gaines.
She is survived by many who will always be inspired by her spirit, and love of life.
Survivors include four sons, Charles (Janie) Houser of Magnolia Springs, Morton (Jan) Houser of Foley, John (Amanda) Houser of Magnolia Springs, David Houser of Atlanta; grandchildren, Mary Beth Willis, Michael Jacobs, Ken Houser, Pam Houser Reeves, Suzanne Jacobs Kent, Shaler Houser, Charles Houser, Ross Houser, Paige Houser Jowers, and Jennifer Houser Kramer; sister, Nell Morton Gubner of Garden City, N.Y.; nephews, Jim (Nancy) Gaines of Magnolia Springs, Bill Gaines, Tim Delony, Douglas Gubner, Peter Gubner; and nieces, Carol Stark and Sarah Ross Bender; and 12 great-grandchildren.
