Denzel Allen Hubbard, born Dec. 22, 1939, a resident of Perdido, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer in his Gulf Shores home.

He was one of the two children born to Glenn and Dorothy Hubbard.

He was born and raised in Lawrence County, Mo., and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Mt Vernon, Mo., in 1957.

He and his wife Shirley enjoyed a five year tour in the United States Air Force and a career in the petroleum industry for over 35 years.

He and his wife entered retirement in 1998 and enjoyed being with his family, fishing, and working in his garden and yard. He touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and maintained his trademark of hard work and sense of humor all the way to the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Shirley Hubbard of Perdido Beach; son, U.S. Naval Capt. Mark A. (Robyn) Hubbard of Lemoore, Calif.; daughter, Gail D. Head of Sharpsburg, Ga.; brother, DeWayne (Peggy) Hubbard of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kendra Anderson of Layton, Calif., Cody Hubbard, Katelin Hubbard, both of Lemoore, Calif., Lucas Head, Lindsey Head, both of Sharpsburg, Ga.; one great-grandson, Malakhai Anderson of Layton, Calid.; countless other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 from 6-8 pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Elberta. A funeral service will be held at a later date from Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, MO.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Hubbard.
