Hydrant facelifts almost complete

SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Spanish Fort Water System Inc. is nearing completion of an aggressive project in concert with the city’s volunteer fire department to upgrade and document the city’s fire hydrants.

Distribution Manager Jason Evans said the water system has spent between $75,000 and $80,000 to date on the project that began in late 2009.

“It’s the most comprehensive thing we’ve done on fire hydrants in years, and now as the city grows, we’ll know where the hydrants are and be certain—on sight—of their capacities,” Evans said.
