DAPHNE, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting at the Daphne Bayfront Park Pavilion at 5 p.m. tomorrow to discuss a proposed Interstate 10 project. The project plans to provide additional capacity to reduce congestion of traffic between I-10 west of Broad Street in Mobile County and just east of the U.S. Highway 98 exit off I-10 in Baldwin County.
The proposed project includes a new bridge over Mobile River, widening of the I-10 Bayway and other interchange improvements as needed.
Four alternative plans at the meetings will be presented to the public on large-scale maps and displays.
“We have five possibilities we are proposing at the meeting for the river bridge,” said Don Powell, Ninth Division reconstruction engineer. “That project also consists of adding lanes to the Bayway.”
Powell said that the different plans offer alternatives to plans for a new Mobile River bridge, and that choice could affect the expansion of lanes on the Bayway.
“It may change where the Mobile River bridge ties in to the Bayway depending on which choice,” Powell said. “But the widening is going to happen regardless.”
ALDOT representatives and the consulting firm of Volken and Associates, Inc. will be available to answer public comments and questions at tomorrow’s meeting.
