Incumbents win in Fairhope

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Roughly the same number of Fairhope residents turned out today for the runoff election for mayor and one City Council position as in the Aug. 26 election. The Oct. 7 balloting has returned two incumbents to office, according to unofficial returns.

Mayor Tim Kant received 2,911 of the 5,234 votes cast today, or 55.6 percent. Challenger Dean Mosher received 2,323 or 44.4 percent.

There were 193 fewer votes cast for the office of mayor in the runoff than the Aug. 26 election, when seven candidates were vying for the mayor’s office.

In the City Council Place 2 race, incumbent Dan Stankoski received 2,903 (56.4 percent) of the 5,150 votes cast in this race. Challenger Danny Corte garnered 2,247 or 43.6 percent of the ballots cast.

In this race, there were 193 fewer votes cast than in the Aug. 26 election, when three men ran for Place 2.

In the Aug. 26 city election, 5,427 votes were cast in the mayoral race, which had seven candidates. Kant received 1,248 votes (22.9 percent), Mosher, 1,282 (23.6 percent). The remaining votes were cast as follows: Jack Burrell, 493; Rick Gambino, 452; Bob Gentle, 1,085; Vince Valentim, 33; and Chris Warner, 834.

Initially, the City Council Place 2 race had three candidates. Of the 5,114 votes that were cast on Aug 26, incumbent Dan Stankoski garnered 2,417 (47.3 percent); Danny Corte, 2,214 (43.3 percent). The other Place 2 candidate, Douglas Taylor, received 483 votes (9.4 percent).

Officials stated there were 11,580 registered voters (10,141 active voters and 1,439 inactive voters) at the time of the August election.
