FAIRHOPE, Ala. — On Oct. 8, the city of Fairhope, along with Cardiology Associates, SmartCoast and Regions Bank, sponsored “Walk Your Child to School Day.”

The event was held to promote safety, physical activity, concern for the environment and to give parents and caregivers the opportunity to teach children the proper way to cross the street, identify safe routes to school and how to follow other pedestrian safety rules.

“Walk Your Child to School Day” was established by the Partnership for Walkable America to encourage parents and communities to teach children about pedestrian safety and to become more aware of the difficulties and dangers children may face on their trip each day.

More than 300 students and parents from Fairhope Intermediate School, Fairhope Elementary School and the Fairhope K-1 Center joined parents and students internationally to participate in this event.

Students who participated were eligible to win a pair of bicycles. The winner was Anthony Lee from Fairhope Intermediate School.
