ORANGE BEACH, AL - The Iowa Snowbird Club met for an 8:30 a.m. breakfast on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Lulu’s Homeport with 207 members in attendance. Steve and Chris Hedlund, Co-presidents presided.
Harriet Outlaw, a local history author and volunteer representing the Swift-Coles Historic Home in Bon Secour, gave an interesting and entertaining presentation. She encouraged the Iowans to visit the home and other historical sites in Baldwin County.
First time Iowa visitors to the breakfast were introduced and many door prizes and six gifts from the 50/50 were awarded. Events of interest to winter visitors were highlighted. Some of these events are sponsored and put on by Iowans and other winter visitors and benefit local nonprofit groups with generous donations. Terry Kiser, website manager, offered rosters of winter visitor Iowans for $1 with more copies to be available at the next breakfast.
Future breakfasts will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays, Feb. 12 and 26, at 8:30 a.m. at Lulu’s Homeport. Members need to make reservations for the $9 breakfast on the “sign up” page of the Iowa website page: Iowa-Alabamagulfcoastsnowbirds.org. If that is not possible, call Shari DeCook, 641-521-0929 or Sharon Hesselmann at 563-357-2721 to make the reservation.
The first cocktail party was Friday night, Jan. 17 at Phoenix V. The second Iowa cocktail party will be held Friday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. at The Caribe, building C. No reservation is required and everyone is welcome to attend. Bring a dish to share and your own beverage. Check the Iowa website for golf information and information about other events in the area.
There is a change of location and information for the Friday, Feb. 21 cocktail party. It will be a pizza party in the Grandreef room at the Perdido Beach Resort. Iowans do not need to bring any food or drinks as they will be available for purchase. The Iowa website will have more information.
