J. Steve Powell

J. Steve Powell, 88, a native of Fort Worth, Texas and resident of Fairhope, passed away February 17, 2014.

He graduated from Auburn (API) and the University of Texas, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Powell married Carol Lee Gurley on Oct. 26, 1962.

He was employed by EI DuPont from 1955-1989, working for most of his career at Marshall Laboratory in Philadelphia, Pa.

He was a member of Newtown Square Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania for more than 20 years before moving to Fairhope, where he became a member of Trinity Presbyterian in 1995.

Mr. Powell was predeceased by his mother, Lucie Thomas Powell; his father, Joseph Stephen Powell; and a sister, Margaret.

He leaves behind his wife, Carol Gurley Powell; a daughter, Laura P. Luzeski (husband Steve); son, Carl S. Powell (wife Lisa Lee); four grandchildren, Dalton and Lexi Powell, and Christopher and David Luzeski; and a sister, Laura Hall (husband Hollis).

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian on Saturday Feb. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian.
