Jabari Stots charged with animal abuse and criminal trespass

On April 20, the Foley Police Department and the Foley Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire at 17929 Little Rock Road in Foley. The fire was contained in a bedroom closet. A dog was located in the residence and had suffered burns. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian by police. After the dog was released by the veterinarian, it was brought to the kennels at the Foley Police Department. On Tuesday, April 26, the dog was taken back to the veterinarian. The dog was later euthanized.

During the investigation, the Foley Police Department has learned that three individuals were involved in this crime. Two juveniles have been arrested for criminal trespass, 1st, a class c misdemeanor and released to their parents. The ages of the juveniles are a 16-year-old female and a 17-year-old male. A third suspect is 19-year-old Jabari Maliek Stots of Foley.

According to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s office, Stots is being charged with aggravated animal abuse for pouring camping fuel on a dog and setting it on fire in Foley. Aggravated animal abuse is a class c felony, which carries a range of punishment from one year and a day to ten years in prison. He is also charged with criminal trespass in the first degree, which is a class a misdemeanor that carries a sentence of up to one year in jail. The investigation is ongoing.
