POINT CLEAR, Alabama—The Yellow Jackets of McGill-Toolen Catholic scored their 78th victory of the 2013 golf season Tuesday topping eight other teams with a tournament win in the Battle of Mobile Bay (BOMB) tournament Tuesday at Lakewood Golf Club at Point Clear.
The Jackets were the only team to break 300 strokes by finishing the Dogwood 18 with a 298. St. Luke's 307 was good for second place as the Wildcats edged the hosting Fairhope Pirates by three swings (310). UMS-Wright (319) was fourth followed by Spanish Fort (326), Baker (334), Faith Academy (337), Alma Bryant (348) and Daphne (366).
Fairhope’s Alex Green had the best individual score of the day to medal with a 2-under 70. Sheldon Statkewicz’s even-par 72 led three other McGill-Toolen teammates with score cards of 77-or-under.
Three players shot a 74: McGill's Steven Setterstrom, Bryant’s Alex Groznik and St. Luke’s Wesley Hunter. Daniel Lursen (Mc-T) scored a 75, Drew Matters (St.Luke’s) and Channing Flowers (UMS-W) each shot a 76, Trent Baggerly (Fairhope), Brent Wright (Mc-T) and Nick Williamson (SFHS) each finished with a 77. Payton Massey (St. Luke’s) had a 78 while Zachary Ames (Daphne) and Daniel McCormick (St.Luke’s) each fired a 78.
The Baldwin County boys golf championship will be held on the Azalea course at Lakewood April 8.
