John O’Connell Jackson Jr., 83, a native of Mobile and a resident of Fairhope and Point Clear for the past 20 years, died Saturday, June 5, 2010.
Born April 3, 1927, he attended Murphy High School, Marion Institute, and Auburn University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II having served on the USS Lexington. He worked in the furniture industry as an independent manufacturer's representative for over 50 years and leaves many dear friends in the industry.
He loved God, family, country, and life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John O’C. Jackson Sr. and Helena Turner Jackson, and a son John O’C. Jackson III.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sylvia H. Jackson of Fairhope; six children, Alletta Turner Jackson-Avant (Hal) of Fairhope, Mary “Bee” Barnett Jackson of Mobile, Waring Inge (Jane) Jackson of Woodstock, Ga., Colette (Steve) Matola of Isle of Palms, S.C., Louise (Paul) Kohlheim of Sullivan's Island, S.C., Katherine “Katie” Elizabeth Jackson of San Francisco; two step-sons, Carey M. (Lindi) Watson of Doerun, Ga., and Kemper L. (Alison) Watson of Woodstock, Ga.; four brothers and sisters, Horace T. “Bubba” Jackson, Patricia J. Harden and Toni J. (Hap) Myers, all of Mobile and Lucille J. (Tom) Ollinger of Point Clear; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
