Jacy Todd will return for Daphne's Friday night football game

DAPHNE, Alabama — Coach Jacy Todd will make his first return to Jubilee Stadium Friday night since a car crash nearly took his life Aug. 1.

The visit coincides with his release from inpatient to outpatient therapy programs over the weekend. His wife, Dyeatra, posted on CaringBridge.com recently about their struggles during the last three months and both are looking forward to the visit.

“It’s a big week for us but we are most excited about Friday. Jacy started out by saying we could leave Atlanta as late as noon to make it to the ballgame and now we are planning to leave at 5 a.m. Now he’s saying that he may not sleep Thursday night. I told him that he has to let me sleep. I haven’t driven in three months and now I’m going to drive on a crazy, busy interstate for six hours, or more. We are both very excited to see everyone and be back to our normal life for a couple of hours. It sounds crazy, but normal for a couple of hours is what we have been working toward for three months now. We can’t wait to get home Friday. We are excited to see everyone. We continue to pray for strength and healing—and always a miracle.”

The Todd’s will return to Atlanta on Sunday to continue rehabilitation.

“We hear that the outpatient program is not a joking matter around here. They are serious and push the patients really hard so that improvements are seen in a short period of time. We should have a discharge date from day program toward the end of next week. As soon as we find out that date, I will let everyone know. I hope we are able to be home for Jacy’s birthday but if God has different plans, we are okay with that too. We will stay here as long as they let us and as long as Jacy is improving.”

The road has been tough for the Todd’s who have been in hospitals and rehab centers since the day of the accident.

“Jacy fought for his life for 27 days at USA Medical Center in Mobile and has fought for 59 days at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to get back to living. This day seemed like it would never come and we are thankful to be starting a new chapter of therapy. I believe this new chapter has a miracle that only God could understand just around the corner. We have prayed for complete healing for 86 days and God says that if we present our requests in the spirit of thanksgiving, it is done. I cannot wait to see God’s work in our lives as we begin the day program here at Shepherd.”

Split the pot fundraisers at Daphne home games have gone to help the Todd’s with expenses. Most of the winners have donated all of their split back to the Todd family for expenses.

Todd also posted information for making donations directly to the family.

“We have set up a PayPal account for those of you who are not near a Bryant Bank to contribute to Jacy's medical supplies,” she said. “Thank you for any contributions.”

The PayPal address is dtodd@southalabama.edu

Local Zaxby’s restaurants have been and are continuing to conduct fundraisers for the Todd's throughout their Baldwin County locations. The restaurant's Baldwin County locations will be donating a portion of their Thursday evening sales to the Todd family.

“Thank you for all the love and support we have received,” Todd said. “They told us again today about more stuff that we need and I talked with our insurance and to no surprise, it is not covered.”
