James Arthur “Jimmy” Bryars III, 82, a native of Mobile and a resident of Stockton, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at his residence.
He along with his brother Harold Bryars owned and operated Hubbard Landing.
He worked as a pumper for Pruett Oil Company and served for over 30 years as hunt master of the Baldwin County Hunting Club. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy and a member of Grace Community Church in Mobile.
He will be remembered as a man of integrity who was kind, gentle, loyal and humble. “Pop” loved his family well and simply trusting in God.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Annie B. Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frances Brown Bryars of Stockton; two sons, James A. “Jim” (Becky) Bryars IV of Mobile and Michael Renn Bryars of Stockton; brother, Harold I. (Evelyn) Bryars of Stockton; seven grandchildren, James A. Brayers V, Catherine Elizabeth Bryars, Jennifer Rebecca Bryars, Caroline Frances Bryars, Michael Renn Bryars II, Erin Nicole Bryars and Ali Kathren Bryars.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Norris Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at Stockton Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Bryars and the Rev. Larry Bryars officiating. Burial will follow at Bryars Cemetery in Stockton.
