"font-family:">James Douglas “Doug” Miller, 63, a native of Baldwin County and a lifelong resident of Loxley, peacefully exchanged this life for eternity on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at home after a battle with cancer.
"font-family:">He was born Feb. 7, 1948 to Narvel Lee Miller and Dotha Smith Miller.
"font-family:">After graduating from Robertsdale High School in 1966, Doug joined the Alabama National Guard, from which he retired in 2002. In addition, he was part owner/manager of woodworking and painting business ventures with his brother and uncle until 1984, when he began working with International Paper, where he worked until 2000.
"font-family:">For the last nine years, Doug was employed with the Baldwin County Board of Education in their maintenance department and, along with his wife, owned DSM Services, a truck leasing venture.
"font-family:">His lifelong hobby was working with wood. He enjoyed building cabinets, created one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture for home and office use, and also restored furniture.
"font-family:">Doug was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his brother, James Levi Miller; and sister, Voncile Miller Dawson.
"font-family:">He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Deborah Diane Bigham Miller; daughter, Lori Louise Miller (Kevin) Brock of Montgomery and Silverhill; son, Stephen Douglas (Amanda) Miller of Silverhill; grandchildren, Jacob Kyle Brock, Holly Katherine Brock and Cameron Bryce Sawyer; and two nephews, Don (Gail) Miller and Ed (Nancy) Miller.
"font-family:">Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Mack Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bo Rice officiating.
"font-family:">Visitation will be held Friday, from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to the service.
"font-family:">Interment will be in the Silverhill Cemetery.
"font-family:">In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Children’s Ministry of the Loxley First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 114, Loxley, AL 35661.
