James Edward Coward, a native of Gallatin, Tenn. and resident of Fairhope, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
James retired from NASA at Stennis Space Center as a project manager responsible for online support of the space shuttle’s main engine testing.
He graduated from Auburn in mechanical engineering, and was a member of Pi Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies.
He served our country in Europe with the 285th Engineering Combat Battalion where he earned a Purple Heart.
He was a talented woodworker, and a wonderful father, husband and friend.
He is survived by his wife Stella of Fairhope; children, Dr. Joe Coward and his wife Debbie of Mesa, Colo., Tim Coward of Fairhope and Dr. Beth Coward of Fairhope; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his beloved nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the service time.
Interment will follow in Montrose Cemetery.
