James Richard "Jim" Glantz, 78, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016.

Jim was born in Elk County, Pennsylvania on Sept. 28, 1937 to Samuel and Mildred Glantz.

He attended Ridgway High School, graduating in 1956.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served for 30 years, retiring with the rank of master chief.

After retiring from the navy, he attended the University of West Florida, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. He went on to teach computer programing at Saint Benedict Catholic School in Elberta, Alabama. He and his students were responsible for winning many first place prizes at the Alabama Computer Fair. Jim was responsible for working hard to obtain funding for new computers for the computer room.

Jim also taught at Pensacola State College, where he was instrumental in many adults receiving their GEDs.

Jim was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 39 years. He had a deep love for AA and helping others. This is why he volunteered weekly for many years at Pathway for Change. He loved the staff and clients, and it hurt him deeply to resign form volunteering due to poor health.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Glantz; mother, Mildred Glantz; and sister, Joan Gorske.

Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Deborah; daughter, Delene (Reggie); son, Jim Jr.; stepson, John (Lisa) Knox; stepdaughter, Sheila (David) Allred; brother, John (Cheryl) Glantz; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; cousins; and lifelong friend and buddy, Paul Miller.
