James Vincent Glass

James Vincent Glass, age 70, of Gulf Shores, passed away on Feb.3, 2013.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1942 in Montgomery, to Vincent Bell and Eileen Spiller Glass. His wife, Judith Farley whom he married on July 12, 1973 survives him, as well as his daughter, Susan Glass (Todd) Nelson, and their two little girls Ava Callan and Eliza Adeline. Also his brother, Fred (Carol) Glass and nephews, Glenn and Ryan and their families. Jimmy or “Glass” as many of his friends called him was a lifetime resident of Tuscaloosa, Ala. He grew up in Northport and attended Tuscaloosa County High School and graduated in 1961. Following High School he joined the Navy and served as a radioman on the U.S.S. Nitro. After the military he attended the University of Alabama and later the University of South Alabama. He was active in the schools of Business and Theater and received a degree in Theater Management. His work history included inspector for the Mobile Housing Authority, technical director of the Mobile Saenger theatre, director of volunteer services at Searcy Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ala. He later transferred to Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa. While working there he was a nurse recruiter and worked in Human Resources and Payroll. At the time of his death he was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Gulf Shores. Doctors Hackmiller and Taylor, Friends from Peng Garden, Cracker Barrel, and Vallarta’s, friends, Becky, Merle, and Kevin from Foley Coin Laundry. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Holy Spirit Episcopal Day School, P.O. Box 2346, Gulf Shores, Alabama 36547. A memorial celebration of life will be held at Taylorville United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at 3 p.m.
