DAPHNE — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Thursday arrested a Jasper, Ala., man for the robbery of the Chevron service station on Alabama Highway 181 in Malbis.
The suspect, Gregory James Etinger Jr., 31, entered the business at about 2:30 a.m. and attempted to buy a candy bar, Maj. Anthony Lowery with the BCSO said.
When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect allegedly grabbed the money and left the store, Lowery said.
“The clerk’s boyfriend who was visiting came out of the restroom; she screamed and he chased the suspect on foot,” Lowery said.
The boyfriend caught the suspect in the parking lot, according to Lowery.
The victim called 911 and Daphne Police officers held Etinger until county deputies arrived at the scene.
“We certainly appreciate him getting involved,” Lowery said of the boyfriend.
Deputies identified Etinger with videotape surveillance and arrested him on third-degree robbery, Lowery said.
Robbery in the third degree is a class C felony that states the suspect used force or threat of force to get away with the theft, according to Lowery.
If convicted, Etinger could face one to 10 years in prison, Lowery said.
Deputies took Etinger to the Baldwin County Corrections Center and booked him. Bond is set at $10,000.
The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the identity of the victim or her boyfriend.
