Bartlette Hardwick Jennings Jr., 87, a long time resident of Fairhope, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009.
He was a first assistant engineer in the Merchant Marines. He was a past president of Revelers Club, past president of Civitan Club, trustee of Fairhope Single Tax Colony for 37 years, as well as being an active member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church and the church’s men’s club. He was also a member of the Fairhope Yacht Club.
He and his family owned and operated Fairhope Clay Products for many years.
Many may remember that he and his family fell victim to arson and theft on Fish River, that resulted in the loss of the Jennings family home of four generations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Brown Jennings; son, Bartlette H. Jennings III; and grandson, Joseph Brian Jennings.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Brown Jennings (Glynda Roberts Jennings) of Fairhope; daughter-in-law, Nancye Dealy Jennings of Fairhope; grandchildren, Bart, Clay, Carey, Alicia, Daphne and Arlene; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and interment were held Thursday, Oct. 1 at Colony Cemetery.
