Jerry J. Stastka, 89, a native and resident of Robertsdale, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Stastka served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of WWII.
He was a volunteer and helped to establish the Elsanor Volunteer Fire Department and his number was the first to retire.
Mr. Stastka was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving as deacon, music director, treasurer and Building and Grounds Committee chairman. For many years, he was the custodian of Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
He was also a member of Baldwin Baptist Builders.
Mr. Stastka was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Stastka.
He is survived by his daughter, Rose (Peter) Covert of Dothan; three sons, Wayne (Geri) Stastka of Robertsdale, Dennis (Joan) Stastka of Robertsdale and Joey (Kathy) Stastka of Daphne; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harvey Earls, the Rev. Raymond Bishop, the Rev. Grant Barber, the Rev. James Gibson and the Rev. Mitch Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., at Bethel Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are the grandsons.
