Jessie Rae Abercrombie, born Dec. 20, 1914, in Cox Station, Maplesville, died Feb. 12, 2012. She was former resident of Robertsdale and a 1933 graduate of Robertsdale High School.
While living in Robertsdale, Ms. Abercrombie was an active member of the First Baptist Church serving as youth Sunday School teacher for many years. She worked in the accounting department for McKesson Drug Co. from 1942 until her retirement in 1980. In 1963, Ms. Abercrombie purchased a home in Mobile, where she resided until her death.
As a member of Central Baptist Church, she worked tirelessly to ensure its growth. Jessie Rae enjoyed traveling with her sisters before and after her retirement. She was a joy to be with and went out of her way to help those in need.
Jessie Rae was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.V. Abercrombie Sr.; sisters, Lula Mae McHugh, Irene J. Abercrombie, Aleatha Fay Abercrombie, Betty A. Thrower; brother, T.V. Abercrombie Jr. and brother-in-law, Robert Buck. She is survived by her sister, Sue Buck of Mobile; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale, with the Rev. Weldon Abercrombie officiating and Russ Murfin singing one of her favorite hymns. Burial will be in Fairhope Memory Gardens, Fairhope. A visitation will be at 9 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will include Marion McHugh Jr., Tom Abercrombie, Darren Abercrombie, Jim Dally, Alan Thrower and Gary Thrower. Gene McHugh will be an honorary pallbearer.
