‘Jingle Bell Mingle’ to help Prodisee Pantry

SPANISH FORT — The Eastern Shore Centre is trying to put a little “fa la la la la” in the holidays with a progressive cocktail “experience” Dec. 4 benefiting Prodisee Pantry.

Dubbed “Jingle Bell Mingle,” anyone over the age of 21 is invited to purchase $25 tickets and spend the afternoon strolling — as a group — from eateries such as Poor Mexican, California Dreaming, Wintzell’s Oyster House, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Fusion Spa Salon for appetizers and adult-friendly drink specials.

The catch?

The event will be limited to the first 50 to reserve their spots, and folks are encouraged to do so by Friday.

Kristen Kammer-Hattox, the shopping center’s marketing director, said participants will also be asked to sign a liability waiver before the festivities begin.

“I came up with this idea because when I lived in Boston, pub crawls were really popular. Then, I did a ‘Tour of Toga’ in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to support St. Jude a few years ago,” Kammer-Hatox said.

The fee includes food, a T-shirt and concession tickets for Premiere Cinema, she said.

“Three words: network, experience, fun. This is a great opportunity to spend time with my beautiful wife and be around new people enjoying the best that local restaurants have to offer,” said Asa Cheeseman, who has already purchased his tickets.

Catherine North, southwest division director of the March of Dimes, said she is hopeful the event might lead to new acquaintances.

“I signed up for Jingle Bell Mingle because it sounded like a fun way to enjoy the holiday season with new people,” she said.

North also said the timing of the event — from 1:45 p.m. until about 4:15 p.m. — means she can schedule other gatherings around the mixer. And it keeps her closer to home.

“Finally, it’s nice to have a local social event that doesn’t require going over the bay to Mobile or to downtown Fairhope,” North said.

Carli Ferrel, who moved to the Eastern Shore from Nashville in August, said she’s trying to get her sister to come visit for the weekend and take the stroll with her.

“I’m still making friends, and I’m a little shy, but if she comes with me I think maybe I could relax and enjoy myself a little more,” Ferrel said.

Joshua McCauley said he’s still trying to make up his mind about purchasing tickets because he wants to be certain he sends the right signal to his new girlfriend.

“It sounds like a lot of fun, but I want to be sure she’s on board. It’s our first Christmas together, and I want her to remember everything we do. I think it’s cool that it’s a fundraiser that’s going to help other people enjoy the holidays, though, and I’m pretty sure she will, too,” McCauley said.

Kammer-Hattox said the center is certainly pleased participants will be on site — and in good spirits — for a little holiday shopping, but Jingle Bell Mingle is more about lending a hand while having a little fun.

“The proceeds benefit Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort, so it’s really, it’s something fun for our guests that will also support our community,” she said.
