Joan Rowland Shelnutt, 79, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 in Foley surrounded by her loving family, and is now at peace.
She was born in Miami, Fla. on March 24, 1935. She graduated from Miami Senior High where she met the love of her life and was married in 1953. They were happily married for 61 years.
Joan loved life, and was a very caring and giving person. Her passion was working with children, going to her grandchildren’s sports games and spending time with her loving husband, her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James (Bob) Shelnutt of Foley; three children, James Shelnutt Jr. of Atlanta, Pam Van Sickler of Gulf Shores and Suzy Maher of Foley; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Joan’s life was privately held for family members.
