SPANISH FORT, Ala. — A job fair will be held June 2-4 for the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World opening here, officials have announced.
Positions available include the retail store, Tracker Marine Boat Center and the Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant.
Those interested in employment with the outdoors store need to apply in person at Daphne United Methodist Church in the Community Life Center Building located at 2401 Main St. in Daphne, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
According to Katie Mitchell, a spokeswoman for Bass Pro Shops, representatives from Human Resources, as well as management staff will be conducting interviews on site and “hope to get the bulk of hiring done.”
Mitchell said they are looking to hire a combined total of 250-300 full-time and part-time positions.
Interested applicants who are unable to attend the job fair can still apply online at basspro.com/job.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World retail store.
The official grand opening for the 140,000 square-foot store is scheduled for August and will be preceded by a special “Evening for Conservation” that is free and open to the public.
When completed, there will be more than 250,000 square feet of drywall in the building, roughly 4,400 cubic yards of concrete on site making up the concrete tilt walls, footings, sidewalks, patios and slabs, and more than 100,000 linear feet — almost 19 miles — of electrical wire.
Work has begun on installing the exterior signs and the imagery department is set to begin inside work consisting of hand-painting murals that will depict local scenes, as well as arranging dioramas and museum-quality taxidermy wildlife and fish mounts.
“The outside of the building is nearing completion,” said project manager Steve Callendar. “The interior is beginning to take shape and you can see what the final product will look like when we open the doors to the public.”
Currently, some 150 tradesmen are on the job site every day. Special store features planned include a 25-yard live fire archery range, a general store, laser arcade, a fudge shop and a White River Fly Shops department.
The store will also feature an 8,000 square-foot Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant. A focal showpiece will be the 20,000-gallon freshwater aquarium featuring numerous waterfalls and displaying colorful native fish. Glass-paneled elevators will move visitors from floor to floor allowing them full store views.
“We will begin filling both aquariums with water the middle of June,” Callendar said. “The restaurant tank will hold roughly 12,500 gallons of salt water and the main store aquarium will hold 20,000 gallons when completed.”
Callendar noted that fish would not be introduced to either tank until around Aug. 1 once the water has settled and certified safe to add fish. Other construction features include exterior work such as placing sidewalks, doing landscaping, painting and staining the building, installing gutters and site lighting.
Graycor Construction is the construction company responsible for building the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store. They were also the contractors for the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store locations recently opened in Portage, Ind. and Bolingbrook, Ill.
Bass Pro Shops is looking for staff associates from the area that have a passion for the outdoors so customers will be assured of getting local skilled, knowledgeable assistance with product selections and questions.
The store will also offer Outdoor Skills Workshops for adults, kids and families that will help maximize outdoor fun by teaching new skills and improving existing ones.
