John A. “Jack” Moore, 70, of Gulf Shores, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 on the island of Santorini while touring Athens and the Greek islands with his wife.

He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann Coyle Moore.

Born in Hanover Township, Pa., he was the son of Michael Moore and Anna Nauroth Moore. He graduated from St. Leo High School in Ashley, Pa., Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and the Western New England College of Law in Springfield, Mass.

He began his professional career in retailing and held senior management positions in Human Resources with Montgomery Ward and Sweet Life Foods as well as W.R. Grace & Company. After obtaining his law degree, he joined the law firm of Siler and Jonap in Atlanta. He later went on to open a private practice in both Norcross and Gainesville, Ga.

In 1999, he and his wife retired to Gulf Shores. He had a deep interest in sports as well as history and had a passion for travel. But his devotion to his wife and family superseded all. A deeply devoted Roman Catholic from his days as an altar boy, he practiced his faith every day and was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Moore; three children, Sean Anthony (Patti) Moore of Buford, Ga., Eileen Moore (Terry) Francis of Kennesaw, Ga., and Michael (Tammy) Moore of Cummings, Ga.; six grandchildren, Seana Francis, Ryan Moore, Patrick Moore, Will Hammond, Caffrey Francis and Adam Moore; two great-grandchildren, Connor Robinson and Sean Michael Moore; brother, Thomas (Linda) Moore of Hershey, Pa., and family; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Coyle of Ashley, Pa., Jane Coyle Smith of Dallas, Pa., and Kathleen Coyle (Peter) Achorn of Doylestown, Pa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Gulf Shores. Interment will follow at Prince of Peace Cemetery, Elberta.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the John A. Moore Fund, Mary’s Shelter, P.O. Box 18, Elberta, AL 36520.
