John A. Nystrom Jr. went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2014, and a circle of family and friends lovingly surrounded him as he stepped into eternity.

John was born in Walnut Creek, Calif. on his father’s birthday, March 15, 1935. He eventually moved from the Bay Area to Durham, Calif. with his family ... parents, John A. Nystrom Sr. and LaRolla K. Nystrom, and his brother, Michael R. Nystrom.

John attended Durham Elementary School and graduated from Durham High School. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, but attained his degree at Chico State, majoring in anthropology and minoring in German.

He married Mary Lou Peterson in November 1959, and they had two children, John A.

Nystrom Ill and Kathleen T. Nystrom.

In 1975 he moved his family to Pinedale, Wyo., where good times were had and memories were made.

He spent his lifetime building houses, fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and enjoying his days with family and friends.

John was a wealth of knowledge, and he always had a great story to share.

He and Mary Lou moved to Fairhope in 1999, but his beloved wife left to be with the Lord in June 2002. A few years later, God saw fit to doubly bless him when Peggy Shilston entered his life ... and they were blessed with eight beautiful years together.

John is survived by Peggy; son, John; daughter, Kathleen; son-in-law, David Smith; five grandchildren, Jared (Lori) Smith, Kaleb (Amanda) Smith, Tyler (Ashley) Smith, Rachel

Nystrom and Mariah Nystrom; and seven great-grandchildren.

John loved Jesus, his family and many dear friends ... and those of us who know and love him will miss him tremendously until we see him again.

A service in celebration of his life will be held at Jubilee Shores United Methodist Church in Fairhope on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 6 p.m.
