John Dugald Crosby III

John Dugald Crosby III, age 69, born in Mobile, Ala. and a lifelong resident of Bay Minette, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016.

He was the owner and president of Crosby Lumber Co. Mr. Crosby graduated from Marion Institute and also attended Ole Miss University.

He was also a veteran of the National Guard.

John Dugald was a lover of life, friends and people in general. He especially loved his family, nature (particularly longleaf pine) and his Savior.

He was an avid conservationist and conversationalist. As a devoted and generous steward of that to which he had been entrusted, he worked hard and fished even harder.

Indeed, the fish of this Earth are less stressed today while the fish in Heaven are a bit more on edge. But they should fear not, for he is kind and generous of heart and practices catch and release.

This planet has one less unique, charming and delightful human being who could bring and share much joy and Heaven has gained yet another. He will be greatly missed but remain deeply in our hearts, memories and stories.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Hyde Crosby of Bay Minette; his adoring children, Catherine Crosby of Bay Minette, Rachael (Stuart) Valentine of Daphne, Ala., John Dugald Crosby IV of Daphne and Eliza Drake Logan Crosby of Bay Minette; three grandchildren, Kathleen Byrd, Caroline McKenzie Valentine and Emma Katheryn Valentine; one sister, Bettigrey Crosby Hollingsworth of Dyas and Lillian; one brother, James H. “Jim” Crosby of Fairhope; two uncles, William Neal (Mary Joe) Crosby of Spanish Fort and Dr. E. Brown Crosby of Asheville, N.C. and Lillian; an aunt, Katchie (Mrs. Grey) Cane; and numerous cousins, nephews, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dugald Crosby Jr. and Alicia Cane Crosby; and a sister, Lynn Crosby Clark.

Graveside services and burial will be held Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Stockton Memorial Cemetery, with Dr. Henry Cox officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or to your church.

A luncheon reception will be graciously and generously provided by the Stockton Presbyterian Church at the church following the service.
