John Franklin Shriner M.D.

John Franklin Shriner M.D., 90, a native of Foley and resident of Fairhope, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013.

He received his M.D. from Tulane University. Dr. Shriner was a pediatrician in private practice in Mobile for many years, and later worked with the Child Advocacy Center of Mobile.

He was a longtime member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Shriner of Fairhope; one son, John F. (Joann) Shriner Jr. of Cookeville, Tenn.; one daughter, Julie Howard of Navarre, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Peter (Maggie Bogle) Shriner, Ian (Kimberly) Shriner, Sydney Howard, Mason Howard, Ansley Howard, Shelby Howard and Stephanie Taylor; and one great-granddaughter, Wiley Shriner.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra (Emory) Stapleton of Greenville, S.C.; and a son, Steve Shriner of Fairhope.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in Mobile.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Child Advocacy Center of Mobile, 1351 Springhill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604.
