John G. Palmer, 72, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, formerly of Bolingbrook, Illinois, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 29 after a five-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.

John spent almost 30 years as a special agent with the New Orleans and Chicago offices of the FBI. Upon retirement in 2001, John and his wife of 48 years, retired to their little piece of paradise on the shores of Little Lagoon.

John was born June 16, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois.

He is survived by a sister, Georgia (Dave) Pogue of Wichita Falls, Texas; and his brother, William "Buzz" (Saundy) of Duluth, Minnesota.

John attended Rockford East High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University. In Rockford, John met his wife Kay and they had two daughters, Kristin (David) Gonnella (children, John and Joe) and Kari (Jon) Bowles (children, Palmer and Elli).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church.
