John Harry Larson, age 76, a native of Chicago and resident of Gulf Shores, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
Following graduation from high school and three years of service in the Navy, Mr. Larson went on to work in the banking and financial services industry, where he spent his entire career until his retirement as CEO of Meijer Credit Union of Michigan. Mr. Larson was preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. and Marion E. (Sperry) Larson, and brother, Raymond Larson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Carlson Larson of Gulf Shores; son, Michael Larson of Gulf Shores; daughters, Lynne (Race) Foster of Hazelhurst, Wis., and Kristi (Phil) Arndt of Hopkins, Mich; sisters, Judy Larson of Holland, Mich., and Nancy (Gary) Ackerman of Rockford, Mich; brother, Edward (Judy) Larson of Hastings, Mich; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at St. Andrew by the Sea on Fort Morgan Road in Gulf Shores, with interment to follow in St. Andrew by the Sea Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Andrew by the Sea Church or the American Legion Post 44 in Gulf Shores. Cremation arrangements are by Pine Rest Funeral Home.
