John Kennedy Crampton

John Kennedy Crampton, 72, of Foley and a former longtime resident of Meridian, Miss., died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

Mr. Crampton was terminal manager of Campbell 66, Churchill Truck Lines and Con-Way.

He was a graduate of Millsaps College, and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served in the United States Army.

Mr. Crampton was very active in the community. He was past president of the Meridian Jaycees and a supporter of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra. He participated in several Meridian Little Theatre Productions, and was a Boy Scout leader.

He was also a Deacon of First Christian Church and a Sunday school teacher.

He loved history, classical music, his church and his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Libby Grattan Crampton; two sons, Jay Kennedy Crampton and his wife, Michelle Gothard Crampton of Monroe, La. and Neil Mitchell Crampton, also of Monroe; and granddaughter Elizabeth Antoinette Crampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kennedy Crampton Sr. and Marguerite Culberson Crampton; and sisters, Lois Crampton Worrell and Mary Louise Crampton Gower.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and the Southern Cancer Center in Daphne.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 9:30 until 11 a.m., at First Christian Church. Services will follow at 11 a.m., with Dr. Tom Sikes and the Rev. Lea McCracken officiating. Burial will be in Semmes Cemetery.
