Johnnie B. “JB” Dowdle, age 86, passed away at his home in Spanish Fort, Ala. June 9, 2015 after battling with multiple myeloma cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and his children.
JB Dowdle was born in the town of Newton, Miss. on Sept. 29, 1928. He was the third child of Oliver and Ella Dowdle.
He was preceded in death by grandson, Adam Keith Davis.
He proudly served his country, and is a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War 1950 to 1952.
He was an employee of Scott Paper Co. for 35 years, retiring November 1987.
JB was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort and an avid fisherman, enjoying cat fishing and shrimping in the Mobile delta region.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charlie V. Dowdle. He is also survived by three children: daughters, Tanya (Tamie) Thames of Spanish Fort, Ala., Denise (Don) Davis of Senoia, Ga; and son, Johnnie B (Annette) Dowdle Jr., Covington, La.; seven grandchildren, Shelly Davis, Seth (Emily) Davis, Mandy (Clay) Lanham, Ashley Thames, Cole Dowdle, Katelyn and Jackson Dowdle; and three great-grandchildren, Henry, Caroline, Landon.
The family would like to thank the Covenant Hospice team for all the wonderful support during this time, and all the many prayers from family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.
The family will receive relatives and friends, one hour to service time.
Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Highway 225 in Spanish Fort.
