Johnny Young, 67, a native and longtime resident of Daphne, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010.
He was a retired master sergeant, having served 27 years and 27 days of distinctive service in the U.S. Army. During his service, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
After retiring from military service, he worked 16 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. Young Sr. and Sarah Young.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Freddie H. Young of Daphne; two sons, Rodney (Victoria) Young of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Michael Young of Smyrna, Tenn.; two daughters, Denise Shaw and Jacqueline Young, both of Smyrna; two brothers, Willie J. Young Jr. of Loxley and Anthony (Irmastine) Young Sr. of Loxley; three sisters, Mary (Robert) Ingram of Sparta, Ga., Christine (David) Weathers of Milton, Fla., and Helen (Jamie) Autry of Fairhope; seven grandchildren, seven sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at Shrine of the Holy Cross. Rosary begins at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
